Types of commissions undertaken include: 

  • Market studies carried out to assess potential for port and ferry service development. Initially involved with DFDS Tor Line and Fred Olsen Line in a rationalisation of Scandinavian services and involved in the development of the Superfast Ferries North Sea passenger and freight ferry service between Rosyth and Zeebrugge
  • Feasibility studies carried out to assess ferry service viability, ‘Free Zone’ development and transport route development
  • Review and analysis of new projects and the full range of ongoing operations within the ports, maritime and transport sector.
  • Economic impact studies conducted to assess the importance of the ports of Grimsby & Immingham to the local economy and the significance of Humber ports in the continued development of the Chemical Industry in and around the Humber Estuary
  • Involvement in the Scottish market in development of the Superfast Ferry service, ‘added value’ development in Rosyth, new service development in North East Scotland and renewable energy developments in the Highlands & Islands. Also involved as part of a team in a scoping study leading towards development of a National Transport Strategy for Scotland, for the Scottish Executive. Latterly also similarly involved in Ireland
  • Supply chain resilience associated with potential port disruption, specifically in relation to UK food imports. A Project carried out for Defra that was followed by direct work on UK food supply chain development work with DP World London Gateway.
  • Involvement in overseas projects in Saudi Arabia (Duty Free Zone development), Russia (Development of freight forwarding expertise and setting up a liquid chemical storage and distribution facility in Azov), Norway and Jamaica (Port Handbook development)
  • Author and publisher of the UK Short Sea Freight RoRo and LoLo Capacity Analysis and Report since 2000, a market study widely respected in the sector. Knowledge of the market has led to commissions to carry out further market studies, fleet appraisals and capacity utilisation studies for a range of clients. The Irish Freight RoRo and LoLo Capacity report first published in 2009 provides similar insight and a platform for further work
  • As a Manager and Business Analyst with Exxtor Shipping Services, prior to launching PRB Associates, work included overseeing the operation of the company's own RoRo vessel, the Exxtor 1, involvement in setting up and running Exxtor Ferries, a daily freight RoRo service operating between Immingham and Rotterdam and various internal and external ferry and port appraisals
  • Currently involved, as part of cross-sector team on the Liverpool-Humber Optimisation of Freight Transport (LHOFT) project, sponsored by Innovate UK
